Our Mission
To provide financial assistance to those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their families or loved ones when finances and/or basic medical insurance coverage are unavailable.
This is a personal journey for founder José Guzman, desiring to honor his mother — Maria Mirabal Guzman — who succumbed to this horrific disease. It is José’s heartfelt desire to help families care for their loved ones in their own home for as long as possible, or if necessary, within a quality Alzheimer’s care facility.
A secondary goal of the foundation is to help improve Alzheimer’s care facilities, making them a place where families feel their loved ones receive the attentive and compassionate care they need and deserve.
About José

José Guzman is a former Major League Baseball pitcher, playing with both the Texas Rangers and the Chicago Cubs over a span of 10 years.
Although baseball was a major part of his life, nothing was more important to him than his mother. It is because of the harsh personal experience he and his family endured watching their mother suffer with Alzheimer’s disease, that José chose to start the Guzman23 Foundation.

"Hi Jose, I just wanted to thank you so much for all you have done for my mother and me. I am totally overwhelmed by your generosity and your kind and giving spirit. It was such a pleasure to meet you and talk with you. I will be sharing your information and website with many people I know who are either caregivers or know someone who is. To be able to get away from my house and the constant drain of caring for my mother is a gift greater than any other I could receive at this time. I hear and read about caregivers passing before the person they are caring for and I don't want to be one of them! It is so hard to take care of yourself when you feel like you're drowning and have someone pulling you under also. I am praying that God will richly bless you and your organization. You are doing a great work! It was a bit embarrassing when I asked you casually what you do for a living - just in making conversation - and you told me who you are. I do not keep up with sports with the exception of my grandchildren in football and soccer. So you can imagine how surprised I was to find that I had a star sitting right across from me who had gone to a grocery store to buy groceries for us and had provided care for my mother so I could have some respite times. I was totally blown away! Again, I thank you a million times for your help. You are welcome to share any or all of this email to help your cause." Candace

"I don’t even know where to start when talking about Jose Guzman, and the Guzman23 Foundation. The Guzman23 Foundation has assisted Silverado with help for many of our patients who were in desperate need financially. Jose has personally delivered food, provided holiday meals, paid utility bills, and even paid for caregivers to help relieve families of the major task of caring for their loved one so they could return to work, or just get personal business taken care of. The relationship that has developed between Silverado and the Guzman23 Foundation has already helped so many families. It is a blessing to be with this wonderful organization. We thank Jose and his Foundation for all they do for our Alzheimer’s patients and families in need." Monica McCommas, Administrator of Silverado Hospice

"I have witnessed first-hand the wonderful things that the Jose Guzman Foundation has done for my residents. Whether it is donating food and supplies to our food pantry or cooking and delivering holiday dinners, Jose Guzman’s dedication to our seniors means so very much to them. Mr Guzman even spent one afternoon sitting and talking with our residents, signing autographs and getting to know the people that he touches with his caring spirit. We appreciate you and your foundation more than you know!" Dianne Gonzalez Community Director at Evergreen
